Overview of Computer Servers and their Important Features

The computer server is a program that is established to maintain the connectivity across the network to which the computer is linked to. The server setup comprises a series of hardware fittings and software installation dedicated to control the operations in the computer as well as the other devices that are connected to it. The role of the server is to receive and fulfill the requests entered by the user of the computer or any other terminals connected to the network. Following are some of the important computer servers used to manage operations in a network.

Application Server:This is one of the most eminent servers specially designed for running software application programs.

Communication Server:This server is placed on the enterprise level computation platforms to establish connectivity among the different users within the network working on common projects.

Proxy Server:The proxy servers play the role of mediator for accepting requests from the client who seek access to resources from other servers.

Web Server:This is a server set up for the HTTP clients to enable them to connect, send commands and receive adequate response accordingly with information and other necessary details.

Database Server: This kind of server enhances the users within the network to access files, folders and database related services and organizes libraries.

Some other servers, specifically related to some specific activities are file servers, fax servers, game servers, mobile servers, mail servers etc.

Features of Computer Servers

An ideal computer server must be equipped with the following features to make it reliable for use in corporate organizations to manage the business operations in the computer.

Storage and RAM Support: The server based network system is meant for large scale database access. Hence a convenient storage system comprising of hard drive support for mass storage is very important to keep it in working condition. There should also be sufficient memory support for faster PC performance. Lack of free RAM space can slow down the operations leading to system hanging and difficulty of operations.

Hardware Backup: The hardware backup is very important and protects the stored contents in case of a drive crash. Hence a good server must be equipped with a convenient backup support system to keep the data unharmed.

Power Supply System: The computer server must have an inverter connected to the system to ensure continuous power supply when the PC is kept on power mode for ongoing work. Sudden power cuts can cause a loss of unsaved data and disturb the work schedule.

Exhaust and Cooling System: The server system requires advanced hardware and processor installations that get heated up very quickly when it is kept in working condition. Hence, it is very important to set up a cooling fan or exhaust system to ensure fast cooling of the machine parts to keep them in good condition even if the PC runs for long hours continuously.

The computer server connecting a group of other computers to form a network (generally in an enterprise) plays an important role in resources data and service management as per the requests received from the group of users. Hence the above mentioned hardware support is extremely important for carrying out the workings with ease.
